Does it hurt to get a tooth removed?

The thought of getting a tooth removed / extracted is probably something most patients get nervous about.

Our focus is always on trying to save teeth but sometimes, there is a reason that a tooth / multiple teeth need to be removed.

Before the tooth is removed, the tooth and the surrounding areas will be numbed up with local anaesthetic. Prior to anything being done, the dental professional will test and ensure that it is very numb.

What to expect? No pain! The area should not have ANY pain while the procedure is being completed. It is normal to feel a lot of pressure, pushing and hear some funny noises! Pro tip- take some noise cancelling headphones with you to drown out the noise!

After the procedure, the complexity of the removal and the state of the tooth prior to the removal will determine how long it will take to recover. Pain is expected after removing a tooth when the numbing wears off and your dental professional will advise you of this and of suitable pain relief options for managing any discomfort.
