Private Health Insurance

Do you find Private Health Insurance confusing? You are not alone. There are so many choices out there and so many things to consider. We try to demystify some of the information. Read on to learn more about Private Health Insurance.

All Private Health Insurances

We have a diverse range of patients, including those with various Private Health Insurance plans and those without coverage. Our practice accepts all major Private Health Insurance plans, and we streamline the claiming process with the convenience of on-the-spot HICAPS processing.

For those seeking clarity on potential out-of-pocket expenses, we offer the option to provide estimates for participating Private Health Insurance before your appointment. To facilitate this process, please remember to bring your Private Health Insurance card, or have the digital card added to your wallet when you visit us. In the event you forget your card, you can make an upfront payment and subsequently claim reimbursement directly from your Private Health Insurance.

It’s important to note that Private Health Insurance plans do not permit claims for a different day, and dental practices require the physical or, in some cases, digital card to process rebates; the card number alone is insufficient for claiming purposes.

Navigating the intricacies of Private Health Insurance can be challenging. For those considering acquiring Private Health Insurance specifically for dental treatment, here are some general tips.

  1. Do the sums for your own circumstance and see if it is good value for you. Sometimes the amount you pay for extras doesn’t equate to the same amount as a rebate and it may make more sense to save that money in a separate account.
  2. Conduct a thorough comparison of various plans, utilising the official Government comparison website for the most comprehensive information. It’s worth noting that some other commonly used sites may not display all available options.
  3. Opting for a not-for-profit Private Health Insurance may be a preferable choice, given their focus on member benefits and service rather than profit.

It’s important to note that the information provided is not financial advice and is of a general nature, so it’s advisable to conduct your own research before making any decisions.

We have established partnerships with HCF, CBHS, and Westfund, serving as their preferred providers. All 3 Private Health Insurances operate on a not-for-profit basis, prioritising the well-being of their members. Our proud association with them enables their members to enjoy enhanced benefits when seeking services at our practice.

We participate in the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) which lets us bulk bill dental treatment for eligible children. Please read on to find out more about this scheme.

The early release of Superannuation involves meeting specific criteria, so it is important to determine your eligibility. If you are considering utilising this option to fund your dental treatment, kindly engage in a discussion with your dentist. They can assist you with a dental report should you meet the necessary criteria.

Medicare (Child Dental Benefits Scheme)

The Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS) is a government-funded initiative designed to improve oral health outcomes of children by eliminating the financial obstacle of taking your child to the dentist. This scheme extends its coverage to children aged 0-18. Notably, your child will continue to benefit from coverage throughout the entire calendar year in which they turn 18, extending until the 31st of December of that same year. For instance, if your child turns 18 in June, they will remain covered until the conclusion of that year.

How does it work?

The scheme provides a fixed amount that is available to be used for 2 calendar years, with a slight annual increase. For 2024 it is set at $1095. Eligibility, determined by the government, involves means-testing based on your Family income and estimates. We bulk bill all eligible children under the scheme, making it more convenient for families.

You will receive a letter from the government stating eligibility. If you find yourself uncertain about your eligibility, feel free to contact us at (03) 5933 2766 , and we will be happy to verify your status through the government portal on your behalf. Your eligibility for the CDBS is subject to potential changes determined by your income and estimates, as managed by Services Australia. It is important to note that these changes are not in our control.

The CDBS funds are available for a range of general dentistry services, including check-ups, cleanings, fluoride applications, intra-oral X-rays, fillings, pulp therapies, stainless steel crowns, and extractions.

The scheme is designed to focus on more general dental services. Procedures not covered include, but are not limited to, mouthguards, extra-oral x rays, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and some complex dental procedures.

Once the CDBS balance is depleted, any subsequent appointments must be privately paid for or covered by Private Health Insurance (if applicable). Additional CDBS balances become accessible only after the two-year cycle has reset. For instance, if your child’s initial appointment with a full CDBS balance occurred in March 2024, the reset of the CDBS balance will occur on the 1st of January 2026.

Other Government Schemes

Medicare: Cleft Lip & Palate Scheme

We bulk bill eligible patients under the Cleft Lip & Palate Scheme. This only covers continuing care appointments as per the Scheme’s rules.

We offer bulk billing for eligible patients holding Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) card Gold or White cards. It is important to note that eligibility verification is necessary, and certain exclusions apply to the services covered by the department.

The early release of Superannuation involves meeting specific criteria, so it is important to determine your eligibility. If you are considering utilising this option to fund your dental treatment, kindly engage in a discussion with your dentist. They can assist you with a dental report should you meet the necessary criteria.

What type of payment methods do you offer?

We understand that dental treatment is expensive so we try to offer a variety of different ways to pay to make it more accessible.

There are payment plan options and we accept all major credit cards and debit cards.

We also do on the spot claiming for Private Health Insurance via HICAPS and also accept cash.

We do require full payment on the same day. We offer multiple payment options and our prices are quoted before your appointment so you have no surprises and are prepared for the amount. For existing patients, you will likely already have a treatment plan with the sequencing and cost of the appointments.

In emergency appointments where we have not seen your prior, we will give you a quote at the appointment prior to any treatment being undertaken.

If you already have a payment plan set up, you can just use that one!

If you don’t have one set up, it is important to first figure out how much money you will be putting on a payment plan since each payment plan has a minimum and maximum. Once that’s done, you can find our payment plan calculator to help you with your choice.
