Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Child Dental Benefits Scheme? (CDBS)
You can read more about the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS) by clicking on the link.
I am out of Medicare funds, what do I do now?
You can either use your private health insurance to help fund your kid’s dental treatment or pay out of pocket for the treatment. Once your cap has been used up, you will need to wait till it resets in order to claim again (cycles every 2 calendar years).
What can I do if I am not eiligible for CDBS?
The short answer is you can either use your private health insurance to help fund your kid’s dental treatment or pay out of pocket entirely.
You will need to call and check with Centrelink for the reason you are not eligible for this scheme.
Can I claim both Medicare and my Healthfund?
The answers is no, you cannot claim both Medicare (CDBS) and your Healthfund for a single item. Medicare has a separate set of codes. That said, you can choose which items to claim on private health insurance provided these items are not claimed anywhere else.
What age should I bring my child in for their first dental appointment?
It is important to introduce your child to their Dental professional as early as possible. This is so they get used to the lights and sounds and the people of the Clinic. This ensures that when it’s their turn to have a ride in the chair, they will have a great time. Early check ups result in much better oral health outcomes. Early detection of problems and setting up excellent oral hygiene and diet outcomes make a huge difference in your child’s future oral health.
It is important to have a proper check up at 1 year old. Prior to that, you can bring them in for a quick ride in the chair or to say hi when you’re in for your appointment or a sibling’s appointment.
We are lucky that the generation of children growing up now, have a largely positive experience at the dentist and the whole dental team works hard to make that happen.
